The EPA's suggested maximum 8-hour exposure to Carbon Monoxide (CO) is 9ppm (parts per million) in room air. CO is produced from combustion gases in the home and office, such as water heaters, gas ranges and stoves, fireplaces, idling cars from parking garages, furnaces, space heaters, cigarette smoke, leaking wood stoves, and gas cloths dryers. Symptom of low level CO exposure are close to the flu and can go undiagnosed.
